Trip Planner: South America / Argentina / Capital Federal District / Buenos Aires / Feira de San Telmo
Sundays come alive at Feira de San Telmo as the street turns into a buzzing artisan market. Browse through the fascinating antique stalls selling almost everything you can imagine, or check out the array of artisan leather products. You can satisfy your hunger with typical Argentinean street food and wash it down with a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice. Groove along to the live music performances taking place all along the street, or join the weekly tango event. Pickpockets operate in the crowded street market, so keep a vigilant eye on your valuables. From clothing to decorative objects... The fair itself is that of antiques and is located in Plaza Dorrego, has permanent supervision and therefore say that there is only allowed to sell legitimate old objects. The antiques are, in addition to Plaza Dorrego, in the numerous galleries along the Defensa and in the Mercado San Telmo, located at 961 number of the street (an old establishment type municipal market of the year 1897, where you make an excellent pit stop to eat and drink something During the visit). However the fair has expanded and today it is possible to find several stalls along much of Calle Defensa, from Plaza de Mayo to Cochabamba. Are blocks and more courts, plus some cross-filled fashion and tasteful crafts at affordable prices (some craftsmen make a very cool exchange worth even the penalty bought in R $). On this last visit I met a nice artist who makes perfect sculptures in chalk, paints them and puts them in glass tubing (near Calle San Juan, underneath the viaduct, almost at the extreme opposite Plaza de Mayo). It is possible to buy these mini sculptures individually or in up to 6 units, which allows everyone to bring a beautiful and inexpensive gift (accepts Reais). They have Simpsons, Harry Potter, rock bands, etc. All detailed!!! Also when walking through the fair is possible to make a photo with the illustrious character Porteña of the comics "Mafalda", who "lives" on a stool at the intersection with Calle Chile or visit the interesting minimum house, the narrowest of Buenos Aires (Calle San Lorenzo). Anyway... It is to know the fair to be enchanted with its blocks of pure art!!! Very recommended!!!
