Specialty Museum · Museum
Salta Cabildo dates back to the 1600s and was officially named a national historic landmark in 1937. Today this site houses the North Historical Museum and Colonial Museum of Fine Arts, which provide a history of the region (although exhibits are not translated into English). Originally built in 1626, this colonial building would be rebuilt and restored several times--first by Captain Diego Velez de Alcocer in 1676 and then by Colonel of Militias and camp master Don Antonio de Figueroa and Mendoza in 1780. This building served as government headquarters until 1880, and was later restored by architect Mario Buschiazzo.
