Alto Vista Chapel, Noord

4.2
#2 of 12 in Historic Sites in Aruba
Religious Site · Tourist Spot
Visit a small but storied place of worship at Alto Vista Chapel. Originally consecrated in 1750, the chapel was central to the mission of Domingo Silvestre, a Venezuelan missionary. Rebuilt on numerous occasions after extreme weather or abandonment, the modern-day chapel was completed in 1952 and displays a quirky neo-colonial architectural style, with a bright yellow exterior and tapering walls. Take a step inside to admire the hand-carved altar, a neo-gothic artwork created in 1870. The surrounding desert landscape of cactuses and sand frames the chapel, giving it the air of a refuge from the harsh conditions. • So peaceful and serene. I enjoyed reading some of the Beatitude on the drive down to the chapel. I like the concrete benches that we're built outside to accommodate many people, as it's quite small.  more »
  • Nice pit stop on our tour with a view. The history of the church is interesting and to know that it is still in use after being repaired is awesome. The vendor near by has a great personality! He has....  more »

  • Alto Vista Chapel is a small Catholic chapel also known as "Pilgrims Church" , You also find a Labyrinth, you must enter silently and they say that before going through it you must make a wish, if you manage to pass the labyrinth your wish will come true. It is a very spiritual place where you find an infinite peace.
  • A very clean and well maintained small place with interesting seating area under the sun, with adjacent arid laberynth garden game, and informal vendors of religious goods. The northern coastal area is too far to appreciate the coastline. Would not change staying at any of Aruba's gorgeous beaches to visit this place.
