Trip Planner: South America / Brazil / State of Rio Grande do Sul / Canela / Flor do Vale - Alambique e Parque Ecologico
Amidst breathtaking scenery, you will find Flor do Vale - Alambique e Parque Ecologico, where you can learn about the process of distilling cachaça, Brazilian rum. The place lies in a valley near Canela and has a yellow bus that leaves from the central square of the city every day. You can reach the distillery by car as well and there is a parking lot on site. Upon arriving, stroll down the natural path through the surrounding woods. The visit begins, with or without an accompanying guide (upon request), using the signs and explanations available in each building. The infrastructure is comprised of five different buildings, with areas for production, ageing and bottling, as well as a restaurant and an emporium selling all related product lines.
The guides take you through the whole process of making cachaca, which is completely natural. You can taste the different types of rum and even make a bottle of custom rum to gift someone. Be sure to schedule enough time to have lunch at their restaurant offering delicious food at great prices. For a little adventure, you can even try your hand at crossbow shooting. This is a low key place. It is a working distillery, but in July not much is going on. The staff did a nice job with a simple tour, and were very helpful at the tasting area - gift shop afterwards... more »
It's a beautiful place with a massive waterfall that you can actually get to the base. They advertise animals, such as monkeys and other native creatures, but I couldn't find any. You pay $15 per person if you want to go to their trails and to the waterfall. An extra $20 can buy you some archery practice. An extra $30 can buy you some gun practice. You can taste their traditional brazilian drink called "cachaça" (ka-sha-sah), which has 40% alcohol. You can also understand how the drink is made. They provide a booze bus to pick you up/drop off at the hotel if you want to try the drinks (cost varies). The roads there are unpaved with lots of potholes, so prepare your car for a dirt/dust fest. No one speaks English there.
Super solicitous attendants, good cachaças but what won my heart was the fig liqueur. For those who collect there are beautiful shot glasses.
