A small town’s big surprise, Lago Negro was created in 1953 in an area once covered by a lush forest, which was destroyed by a devastating fire in the 1940s. Shaped like the letter U, the lake was surrounded by pine saplings, imported all the way from Germany’s famous Black Forest (hence, the lake’s name). Today, this large artificial pond sits in the middle of a dense pine forest, with its shores naturally bordered by blue hydrangeas. Take a leisurely walk around the lake to enjoy the scenery and photograph the famous pines, or spend a few hours jogging or cycling on the surrounding paths. Drop by the lake’s boathouse to rent a boat, and take a little time to paddle on the calm water.
