Although it is called an island, Ilha do Guajiru is actually a lush peninsula, once used as a coconut plantation, and covered in Guajirú bushes--the sweet, red berries that give the area its name. The year-round sunshine that once attracted the coconut farmers, today attracts beach-goers and lovers of watersports. A long spit of sand, running parallel to the beach, creates a calm lagoon, which is perfect for kitesurfing, windsurfing, kayaking and swimming. On land, you can explore the green island by foot, cycle, or quad, or simply stretch out on the pristine, white sands.     The Ilha is our favorite choice for kitesurfing. A nice big lagoon, steady wind and basic infrastructure. Different options for a downwinder and by crossing the dune you are in the open sea to play....  more »
