Trip Planner: South America / Brazil / State of Minas Gerais / Lima Duarte / Parque Estadual do Ibitipoca
Rich in fauna and flora, Parque Estadual do Ibitipoca is one of the most beautiful state parks of Minas Gerais. From a choice of three trails, all varying in degrees of difficulty and length, you can explore rare quartzite caves, peaks overlooking the immense sea of mountains, maroon-colored streams, natural swimming pools, and some of the most spectacular waterfalls. Guides come highly recommended, and add considerably to your experience with their invaluable knowledge and expertise, especially in identifying the numerous species of animals you will see on your hike. The gateway to this natural retreat is the rustic town of Conceição de Ibitipoca, one of the oldest and most traditional in the area. Make sure you buy some delicious cinnamon bread from Dona Maria, whose house you’ll pass on your way. You'll find great trails, beautiful views of the valley, caves, and the infamous Janela do Céu (Window to Heaven waterfall). Worth a day trip, at the very least. The weather can change drastically..... more »
One of the best places to visit while in Minas Gerais. For a pretty accessible price you can pay for a place to stay and eat in a great variety of restaurants at night. It's best to plan 3+ days to visit the whole park. One day for each track. Keep in mind the the best place to visit is a MUST: Janela do Céu. Everyone willing to go there have to keep in mind that it can be a bit challenging. Be prepared to walk 8+ Km mountain up to get to the place. But it's sure worth it.
The park is amazingly beautiful, great choice for camping, enjoy some fresh air, hiking, waterfalls, watching birds and wild life. The sky at night is so full of stars! It's a quite big park and maybe two, three or even four days might be necessary to see everything, but anything u see of it it will worth it! I do recommend it!
