Barra da Tijuca Beach, Rio de Janeiro

4.6
With over 15 km (9 miles) of white sand met by clear, blue-green ocean, Barra da Tijuca Beach is the largest beach in Rio de Janeiro, and the farther along it you go, the more deserted it becomes. The agitated waters attract surfers, windsurfers, body boarders, kite surfers, and fishing enthusiasts, and there is a high energy about the busier stretch, where you will see young people playing beach volleyball and soccer. In need of refreshment, you should visit Pepe, named in honor of the late champion hang-glider and regular of Barra da Tijuca Beach, where you will find great sandwiches and fresh natural juices. The quieter sweep of beach provides you with a tranquil paradise, and while it may not have many facilities, nor does it have any crowds. • Blue sea with clear water, in the vast majority of the seats suitable for bathing. Depending on the season, sea with strong waves and cold water. Fluffy, white sand. Extensive waterfront, with boardwalk and bike path, along Avenida Lúcio Costa. Good infrastructure with kiosks, some excellent. Trendy in the stretch of Pepe's tent and along post 4 to 7. Varied sports practiced, with surf schools, bodyboarding, kitesurfing, volleyball, beach tennis, frescobol, etc... There's parking. Following in the direction of Recreio dos Bandeirantes, there is the reserve, environmental protection area. It's worth the visit, despite being a little far from the south. Beautiful sunset.

  • One of the best beaches in Rio quite long and clean. Try to pick up a spot far from bus stops to avoid a crowded area. Parking sometimes and during weekends can be a challenge. Amazing sunset mood.
