Take an evening walk to Pedra do Arpoador to see a spectacular change of colors as the sun sets over the calm ocean. This part of the coast is noted for being one of the finest urban surfing spots in the country, with a rock outcrop famous for creating breakers up to 3 m (10 ft) high. Keep in mind that because of its metropolitan location, the beach does get extremely crowded with very competitive surfers. Strong riptides allow a very small take-off point, so only locals and visiting experts have a real shot at surfing here. Casual tourist can enjoy views of the beach from a long seaside pathway, which is dotted with small alfresco cafés, where you sit down for a relaxing meal at sunset. A visit to Pedra do Arpoador represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Rio de Janeiro trip planner to plot your vacation.

Beautifully shaped between rocks, this beach, aka Devil's beach is one of the best surf spots abroad, also this beach is more reserved and romantic. more »

Such a good place to sit down and whatch the sea. Be by yourself or with friends. Has a good view of Ipanema, Copacabana and other nearby famous places. On a cloudy day it's easy to find a nice spot because it will have less people. P.S.: there are no places to discard trash in the stone, so please bring a bag with you and dispose things properly on your way out.

Great spot for a swim. Stony hills on the left hand side and view of Rock faces on the right. Water is a bit chilly but definitely worth jumping in. There is no shower right there but if you walk up towards ipanema there is a shower. Lots of street food in the area and a market/Court of street food near the place. Make sure to walk around the rocks and take pics. There are also buskers and a workout area near the rocks.
