Rodrigo de Freitas Lake, Rio de Janeiro

4.6
Walk, skate, jog, or cycle the pathway encircling Rodrigo de Freitas Lake, which features numerous convenient spots from which you can photograph the Tijuca Forest and Corcovado Mountain. Along the way, grab a light snack and a refreshing drink from one of many kiosks dotting the 8-km (5 mi) track. You can row, sail, or water ski on the lake, but if your prefer to just bob on the water and admire the sights, rent a small paddle boat from one of several stands located on the eastern side of the lagoon. Visit the area in the evening to enjoy live music, mingle with the locals, and watch the sunset with a cold drink in hand. A visit to Rodrigo de Freitas Lake represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Rio de Janeiro trip planner to plot your vacation.

  • All roads lead us to Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas in this frenzy of the city of Rio de Janeiro! A lagoon that serves nautical sports, to receive a Christmas tree full of lights, every year, when the Cariocas enjoy to gather friends and family around them, to watch the dazzle of the light of lights with colorful and dancing shapes! It is a very human LOVE event on the shores of this lagoon that fills the Carioca with pride! And the tree becomes a more touristic attraction in this marvelous city and unfortunately, it also houses many bandits who take the PEACE out of our lives!

  • A very interesting and pleasant ride of cycling is to run by Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas and enjoy its beauties from different localities. Cool that you can enjoy other points of the city through this path. Just be careful, because the pond is polluted.

  • The lagoon is massive & spills out to the Atlantic Ocean via a small canal running through the city. This is the same lagoon the media heralded as overly polluted prior to the World Cup and Olympics. This is not the case! It is blue and tranquil.
  • Nice place to visit Rio. It’s perfect to jogging, walk or just be near from nature. Good options to eat too.
