Sitio Roberto Burle Marx
These verdant green gardens are Roberto Burle Marx’s personal legacy to the city he so lovingly “painted” with plants. As you explore the 404,686 sq m (100 acres) estate, you will see more than 3,500 species, including some discovered by Marx himself, arranged with his legendary whimsical touch. You will also see the ultramodern studio where he painted, and a small restored colonial chapel dedicated to St. Anthony. Inside the perfectly preserved house, you can find his extraordinary collection of religious images and pottery from the valley of Rio Jequitinhonha, and, of course, some of his own paintings and sculptures. Despite his death in 1994, Marx’s creative force lives on and you will certainly notice this when you visit Sitio Roberto Burle Marx. You book this on their website. Tours are 9:30 and 13:30. We had an English speaking guide and shared him with some Dutch people. We took an Uber there and found our own way back using the local bus..... more »

This museum is the former house / atelier / of Roberto Burle Marx, a achitect / amateur botanist whose projects are worldwide famous. One of the most interesting places to visit if you are into landscaping. This place is packed with exotic plant species from all places one can imagine. Schedulled visits only. This guy was so serious about his passions that he built an extension of his house to fit a door he felt in love with.

Hard to access and appointment needed. Once inside it is very beautiful.
