Vista Chinesa, Rio de Janeiro

4.6
A Chinese-style pavilion nestled within a national forest, Vista Chinesa offers panoramic views of the bay, the city, and the lush jade jungle. The pavilion was built at the very beginning of the 20th century to honor the Chinese immigrants who came to Rio to help the development of tea cultivation. Walk a paved road to the observation point--some 380 m (1,247 ft) above sea level--or hike a jungle trail that begins in a city park near Gávea. On a clear day, you can see the Christ the Redeemer monument in the distance. Put Vista Chinesa into our Rio de Janeiro trip planner and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • This place was very peaceful and not crowded at all. We had spectacular views of Rio, Copacabana, Christ the Redeemer, and of Sugar Loaf. Definitely worth the stop!  more »
  • The viewpoint of the Chinese Vista is sensational, from up there you can see the Guanabara Bay, the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon, the Sugar Loaf, the Christ the Redeemer and of course the beautiful beaches of Ipanema and Leblon. Thanks for every minute standing there admiring!

  • Excellent view and a great spot a bit further away from the tourist main stream. We managed to walk through the forest, but that's definitely not for everybody.
  • Amazing and it's not overcrowded. Don't come hungry because you won't find anything to eat. Lol.
