Built in 1955, Palacio dos Bandeirantes is the seat of the state government and home to a large collection of Brazilian art. Visit the palace/museum for a guided tour of hundreds of works by artists such as Portinari, Aldo Bonadei, Djanira, Almeida Júnior, Victor Brecheret, Ernesto de Fiori, and Aleijadinho. The building’s name is a tribute to the 17th century’s pioneering explorers who expanded São Paulo’s borders almost to its current limits. Inside these walls you can see an array of colonial furniture, leather and silver artifacts, and European tapestry. In an eclectic style, the palace walls are covered with panels describing the history of São Paulo. Don’t leave before visiting the palace garden, a thriving habitat of more than two thousand species of native plants, trees, and birds. Put Palacio dos Bandeirantes and other Sao Paulo attractions into our Sao Paulo trip planner , and watch your holiday take shape.

  • A beautiful and forgotten place in the capital of São Paulo. It is very worthwhile to visit. The space also houses exhibitions. When I went, in 2009, there was a wonderful exhibition about the Forgotten Revolution of 1924.

  • The place is very beautiful and interesting. For lovers of history, politics and art, the same is required. The day I was, because I was alone in the rain tour (exclusive). Very interesting. This building and the City Hall (both the family Matarazzo in the past) are worth a visit.

  • Interesting stop to check out a little bit of Brazilian history. I went for the Pinacoteca display for free at Sunday and it was an ok experience. The permanent art is great though. The only thing not so cool was seeing the bunch of pictures of convicted politicians hanging on the wall... They should be taken down.
