Parque da Independencia, Sao Paulo

4.5
#7 of 63 in Parks in Sao Paulo
Parisian gardens surround the pedestrian walkways with fountains and manicured bushes. In the center of Parque da Independencia you'll find a statue paying tribute to the struggle for independence from Portugal. It's neoclassical figures are triumphant and look fully prepared to fight for their freedom. You'll also find the Paulista Museum, or sometimes known as the "Museum of Independence." This colonial structure houses the history of the revolution as well as the cause and effects. After your leisurely tour, relax on one of the lawns and enjoy the ambience. • Very large with large spaces and also a shaded area, always important on hot days (160 thousand square meters). Here is housed the Ipiranga or Paulista Museum, unfortunately closed for restorations, the imposing Independence Monument, a stretch of the Ipiranga Tower, where legend has it that the idea of Independence began here and the 'House of Grito' where tradition wants that here it was signed by Don Pedro I. In short, a bit of fictionalized history as it happens in all parts of the world. The walk is very pleasant.

  • A very beautiful place to take a stroll. The garden of the park is beautiful, it is worth visiting it and even observing the birds that can be seen there, even more that it is not possible to visit the museum that is in retirement.

  • Fresh air, relax listening some birds flying around. Try to avoid the hill where the messy skateboarders are. Ps: the Ipiranga museum is closed! Very disappointing.
  • This is the place where Don Pedro declared Brasil independence from the Portugal. Hence, there is a memorial built here to commemorate it. Under the memorial is the crypt of Don Pedro and both his wives are buried under it. However, it is also surrounded by a beautiful park which is filled with skaters and families. A very chilled out place to be. At the end of the memorial is the museum of Ipiranga but it is under renovation till 2022,dont ask me what they are trying to do for so long cause it has been under renovation since 2013. You can see the whole of Ipiranga neighborhood from this spot. Extremely beautiful and go with your dog if you have one..
