A quick visit to Priest Anchieta Museum gives you an important history lesson about São Paulo and the catholicization of Brazil. The museum presents the life of Father José de Anchieta, a Spanish Jesuit priest who arrived in Brazil via Portugal in 1553. Father Anchieta was one of 12 priests responsible for founding Colégio de São Paulo de Piratininga, the Catholic educational institution from which São Paulo blossomed. Your visit to Priest Anchieta Museum starts at the crypt, where you can learn about the first mass to take place at the Colégio. In subsequent rooms, you'll see drawings illustrating the Colégio over the years and religious art. The building's walls are the original mud ones that formed the complex's study room. The site's location on the walking path between the Basilica of Saint Benedict and Praça da Sé makes it a convenient stop between these other two attractions. The museum's cafe provides a place to refresh yourself. Make Priest Anchieta Museum part of your personalized Sao Paulo itinerary using our Sao Paulo tour itinerary maker site .

  • The museum is small, has little collection and explores little a rich history. The price is fair, but the organization leaves a lot to be desired. I found it too exaggerated not to be able to take pictures or flash when there are no parts that could suffer from it or parts that could be replicated for illicit purposes. The model presented, for example, that could be super interesting, has numerical indications along the entire layout, but the numbers are very small and difficult to see. The visitor is obliged to overtake the yellow strip of the floor or he cannot see what indicates what. It can be very optimized for a good visitation experience.

  • The location is interesting, every paulistano knows, but few come. It has various pieces of religious art, is historic and very nice too. Definitely worth a visit. For lovers of history, the location is mandatory.

  • I recommend the visit! Place where the city of São Paulo was founded. It has a museum of sacred art, with a few pieces. Regrettable is the situation of the city center. Very dirty and ill-cared.

  • Good for cultural enrichment, part of the fundamental history for all. Point negative, we can't register with pictures.
