Atacama Desert, Antofagasta Region

4.5
Atacama Desert surprises and amazes with its landscape of giant dunes, imposing rock formations, spurting geysers, and huge salt pools mirroring the Andes. One of the driest places on the planet, the desert stretches along the Pacific coast against the backdrop of jagged mountain ridges and volcano-topped horizons. From San Pedro de Atacama you can take field trips to all the desert's attractions. Sandboard down the dunes in Death Valley, walk over the lunar landscape of Valley of the Moon, or float in a natural pool of salt water while admiring the views of Chile's largest salt flat. Cloudless nights and a lack of light pollution make the desert a perfect place to gaze at the stars. Make sure to hydrate and moisturize enough. • No photo will reproduce what my eyes have seen live in this place. Breathtaking landscapes (often literally), tasty food, nice people and a tourist structure without destroying the place. I recommend a thousand times the visit.
