  • So I have to be honest, there really isn's that much to do in Punta Arenas... so if you are visiting with the cruise ship, it is best to book a tour, or just plan to wander around a bit and then head ...  more »
  • I was really struck by this site, whose entrance is free. The Regional Museum of Magellan, located a few meters from the Plaza Muñoz Gamero of Punta Arenas, is inserted in a mansion of neoclassical style that was built in the early twentieth century by the French architect Antoine Beaulier. It was originally called Palacio Braun Menénedez, but when it was acquired by the DIBAM and hosted the collections of the Museum of Patagonia, it took the current name (Museo Regional de Mgallanes). The rooms on the first floor are striking, which must be looked at from the doors, highlighting the furniture of more than 100 years ago. I really liked the section dedicated to the first explorers in the area. It is a must to visit the underground, which is entered by the outside, through the back of the building. There they stand out the modest rooms of the servitude and the ample kitchen. A place to be missed.

  • This is is a free museum with limited hours so check ahead before you visit. All the signage and descriptions are in Spanish. Small backpacks are allowed but you need to wear them on your front. Shoe covers are provided to protect the floors.
  • Nice museum to have a look at if you have some time left at Punta Arenas.
