Central Market (Mercado Central), Santiago

Inspect the daily haul at Central Market (Mercado Central), a great place to shop for fresh fish in Santiago. Give yourself a second to adjust to the potent smell of fish, then meander through the aisles, keeping an eye out for any particularly exotic catches. You can sit down and enjoy some of the day's spoils at one of the market's many fish restaurants, but beware of tourist traps--while many offer decent meals at reasonable prices, some will try almost anything to drag you into their overpriced establishment. • The market is chaos, has a strong smell of fish, has no crafts, only restaurants and selling fish. Honestly, just visit if you have time left, only worth the visit if you buy the fruits that are sold outside. The harassment of the waiters is annoying so many people who are approaching you for lunch at the market.

  • In places like this, being a tourist, it © normal if you expect a little © Dio, but what happens in this market is © out of the ordinary. From the moment you enter, you will © Impossible to look at a menu or simply walk without someone wanting to sell Lunch. Do NOT give to make a Meal in peace. The garà § ons look like The Walking Dead zombies chasing you around every corner. I had a very © Experience, as you can Already guess.

  • Very vibrant and lively market (not on Sunday to Tuesday) that caters were highly to tourists. This means it is generally safe and expensive. However, it is preferred if you are visiting and a tourist to the more local markets across the bridge which can be difficult to navigate on your own.
  • The famous Mercado Central is a must-see of Santiago, there are nice restaurants and food, if you go with a guide you will hear a bit of the market's history which is interesting, although the market is smaller than it seems to bit when you see the pictures on the Internet. If you visit the 'Central' you might as well visit the other markets that are nearby.
