Central Market (Mercado Central), Santiago

Inspect the daily haul at Central Market (Mercado Central), a great place to shop for fresh fish in Santiago. Give yourself a second to adjust to the potent smell of fish, then meander through the aisles, keeping an eye out for any particularly exotic catches. You can sit down and enjoy some of the day's spoils at one of the market's many fish restaurants, but beware of tourist traps--while many offer decent meals at reasonable prices, some will try almost anything to drag you into their overpriced establishment. • The architecture is beautiful, but the market itself is simple. The restaurants expose some dishes and offer evidence. It has a souvenir with affordable price. I leave an alert here, we had a problem with a taxi driver. I advise you to use the subway or take taxis recommended by the hotel

  • I particularly like markets and fairs and always look for every new place I go and when I saw the negative assessments of this Santiago, I thought it was only for boring people who know how to enjoy the local culture but I ended up agreeing 100%. I even recommend knowing if you are already in the area, like 15 minutes already seen everything, but the food besides very expensive, is not good and the experience really lets you wish.

  • Very vibrant and lively market (not on Sunday to Tuesday) that caters were highly to tourists. This means it is generally safe and expensive. However, it is preferred if you are visiting and a tourist to the more local markets across the bridge which can be difficult to navigate on your own.
  • The famous Mercado Central is a must-see of Santiago, there are nice restaurants and food, if you go with a guide you will hear a bit of the market's history which is interesting, although the market is smaller than it seems to bit when you see the pictures on the Internet. If you visit the 'Central' you might as well visit the other markets that are nearby.
