Trip Planner: South America / Chile / Santiago Metropolitan Region / Santiago / Santuario de la Inmaculada Concepcion
A commanding statue of the Virgin Mary dominates the landscape at Santuario de la Inmaculada Concepcion. Built in 1904 to commemorate the 50-year anniversary of the dogma of the Immaculate Conception, the 12 m (39 ft) statue stands on a site sacred to the indigenous prior to colonialism. Visit the church to admire its stone architecture, and step inside to look for several murals and statues. From the top of the hill, you can see over all Santiago and even to the snow-capped Andes. Take a hike up the hill to get there, or for an easier time ascending or descending, ride the funicular or hire a cab. O acesso se dá por funicular até uma parte, depois conte com suas pernas, mas vale a pena. The place is quite beautiful, there is a chapel before reaching the sanctuary, follow the great painted paintings that picture the life of Jesus. The sanctuary is at the highest point, with a breathtaking view. There is also a cable car ride in a closed cabin, which can be bought along with the funicular, very quiet, worthwhile. In Cerro San Cristobal you have the view of Santiago and the ranges practically for free, compared to Sky. I highly recommend it!
Imperdível a visitação, a imagem que olha para toda a cidade e de certa forma a protege, fascina pela posição da imagem mediante a cidade de Santiago. more »Unmissable visitation, the image that looks to the whole city and in a certain way protects it, fascinates the position of the image through the city of Santiago.
Fantastic spot to really appreciate one of Santiago's most iconic locations located at the summit of the San Cristobal hills. As long as the weather is decent, you can take in the stunning views and grab a panoramic view of the city. The shrine and associated statue is amazing to stand up close and in person to see what's visible from the foothill. Great show of craftsmanship and it's pretty easy to come up here.
Cerro San Cristobal is one of the most famous tourist spots in Santiago, Chile. When my mother decided to visit me during my days in Chile, this was the first place I thought about bringing her. I knew she would enjoy the amazing view overlooking Santiago, the Andes Mountains and the Cordillera de la Costa. If you’re wondering was is that large hill that can be found in the middle of Santiago, that is the famous Cerro San Cristobal and the hill is important to many different people. For some, it is a religious pilgrimage place due to the 22 meter marble statue of Virgin Mary placed atop of a hill. For other, it is a amazing place to cycle and run and they use the hill’s open space to train and have fun. For me, this is a place to enjoy Santiago from the top and to take pictures of everything.
