Drepung Monastery (Zhebang Si), Lhasa

4.7
Enjoy a scenic path and the sight of Drepung Monastery (Zhebang Si), tumbling in three tiers from 22 m (72 ft) and then from 30 m (98 ft), respectively. Gushing out of rocky formation into a large 21 m deep (69 ft) pond, the first waterfall offers a spectacular view, which you can enjoy from a railing at a safe distance. Called the "Pond of the Emperor of Heaven," this national treasure supports a number of rare plants growing in the vicinity of the cascades--most notably solimnan reed, which makes it a national monument. The hike will take you past a picturesque red and white metal pedestrian bridge and a Buddhist temple. Bring walking shoes, bug spray, and water.
