St Joseph Catheral, Tianjin

Religious Site · Tourist Spot
Enter the ornately decorated interior of St Joseph Catheral, the largest church in northern China. The Neo-Byzantine style church's construction began in 1913, with each brick transported here from France, and reached completion in 1916. Though it was somewhat damaged by the 1976 Tangshan earthquake, it was repaired and eventually placed on the city's cultural relics protection list in 1991. Within the church's pastel walls--among its 14 columns that support sweeping vaulted ceilings--you'll find a wealth of paintings and statues. Masses are held every morning, with special English language mass taken every Sunday at 11:30 am. • One of the significant icons of Tianjin. Surrounded by crowded shopping malls. The interior was breathtaking, dominated with baby blue and pastel colors
  • Passed by and it caught my eye.
