See the castle on a cliff, Fort Lovrijenac, one of Dubrovnik's most recognizable sights, and a detail from HBO's "Game of Thrones." Sitting 37 m (121 ft) above sea level, the fort dates back to 1018, when it was intended to protect the western part of Dubrovnik. Today, you can witness some of the events that take place at the site, which is sometimes compared with Gibraltar. Climb the 175 steps to the fort to see some of the best views of the city and the bay. Look for cannons that were designed by the leading local cannon caster of the epoch. A visit to Fort Lovrijenac represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Dubrovnik journey website to plot your vacation.

Fort Lovrijenac Reviews
One of the first 'eyeful' views before heading into the walled city at Pile Gate. Game Of Thrones site. A guide will show you many features but there is a steep climb & then stairs - but it is worth..... more »

It's an empty fort with great views. Highly recommend doing this with a tour that will show you how it was used in the Game of Thrones filming along with is history. It'll make it come alive. Also important to note. It gets very hot and the climb is not for those with breathing conditions, small children, or heart issues. Many steps and a fairly steep grade.
Fantastic views over Old Town Dubrovnik, but wow what a climb. Well worth the climb up the stairs, but if you have mobility problems then I would say it will be a challenge. There is no wheelchair access, so unless you have fit young helpers, you may have to give this a miss. If you’re a GOT fan, it’s a must. Lots of scenes were filmed here and the view of Kings Landing also with its many scenes is a must.
