Christiansborg Palace, Copenhagen

4.5
The seat of the country's parliament, the stately Christiansborg Palace stands directly above the ruins of a castle that existed in this very spot nearly 1,000 years ago. Take a guided tour of the palace to see its famous royal reception rooms used by the queen to entertain visiting heads of state. Be sure to visit the largest of the reception rooms, a hall so vast it can seat up to 400 guests. For a crash course in Danish history, visit the remains of the original castle to learn about the palace's long service as a royal residence and seat of legislative power. • There are tons of castles in Europe and every one of them has its charm; Christiansborg isn't the exception and I would go as far as saying it's one of the best. Its large grounds and clean spaces give out a beautiful regal vibe that it's hard to beat. It is still used by Danish royalty so that makes it even more fascinating. The museum is a thing of beauty and even just looking at the royal horses and stables is full of magic. I strongly recommend a visit to this beautiful castle.
  • Another European Jewel of a palace. This former royal palace currently houses the Danish Parliament. It is a beautiful building and also has some awesome stables which are still in use and a sight for horse lovers. The interiors are as opulent as you would expect for a royal residence. I always marvels at the skill level of the tradespeople who built these works of architectural art at a time of basic hand tools. Christianborg Palace is a must to add to any walking tour of Copenhagen. Access is easy and quick from the city hall square which I have previously reviewed.
