Pusher Street is part of the self-proclaimed autonomous neighborhood Christiania, well-known for the progressive and liberated Danish lifestyle--including sales of cannabis on open stands. Residents took over former military barracks and parts of the city ramparts in 1971 to create a laid-back, hippie-style commune. Follow the signs that will tell you the rules of Christiania, which forbid stealing, violence, guns, knives, hard drugs, and biker gang colors. This green-light district also features bars with live music, vegetarian restaurants, and interesting graffiti art. Do not take pictures on the street. Put Pusher Street into our Copenhagen road trip app and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

The hygienic conditions seemed to me to be mostly precarious (and of course I am simply referring to public spaces) and already in this respect the freedom of a life in the name of elementary hygienic conditions is lost. But what most interdicted me is that you can not take pictures of Christian: they draw it among the various colorful murals, they repeat it insistently at the beginning of Pusher Street, in a fairly threatening tone . . . that freedom ensures a community where it is forbidden to take photographs? I think it's a contradiction to call it "free town."

By the time we were there, the police were marching in with a camera and the whole society was dissolving at lightning speed. After that, they slowly returned. The idea of a detached and free society was certainly not bad, only these shady figures, who want to profit from it, unfortunately ruin it.
