#6 of 3,414 in Things to do in Denmark
For sweeping views over the city, climb to the top of Rundetarn. Built in the 17th century as one of many architectural projects commissioned by King Christian IV, this tower long served as an important astronomical observatory. The structure formed part of a scientific complex that once provided scholars with access to a chapel, church, and academic library. Today the tower ranks among the country's major tourist attractions, featuring a famous 7.5-turn spiral corridor leading to an observation platform. Through the tower you can also access a former library hall, now used as a cultural venue and exhibit space. • After you have stepped upstairs through the sloping plane, you will have a nice view of the city. A real must

  • The round tower is really great! For the first time already a plus, that the way up winds like a snail with a slight ascent upwards. No stairs! Very comfortable. An exhibition (formerly a library) on the subject of the moon landing is currently about halfway there. Arrived at the top, a few steps come and it gets a bit narrow, you have a fantastic view. You don't trust the tower to do that, because there are higher towers (town hall, Christiansborg etc.). And for people who do not like to go to tall buildings and have some fear of heights, the best news: Very massive railing, at least 2 m high! Everyone feels safe!!! The historic railing is still available. At the top is an observatory, which is also in operation.
