  • Definitely worth a trip. Absolutely amazing statues with handouts in every room explaining the history and symbolism in multiple languages.  more »
  • I was yesterday in this museum, taking advantage of the fact that on Wednesdays the entrance is free. I confess that if it had been paid I probably wouldn't have gone. And it would have been a shame, because the museum deserves it. It is worth going there just to see the building in which it is placed, in the neoclassical style, as the style of Thorvaldsen's sculptures, reminiscent of those of the contemporary Antonio Canova. The exhibition of the sculptures is on two floors that follow circular paths. The ceilings of the various rooms are also worth paying attention. Bas-reliefs on the walls alternate with statues of all sizes. Some statues are covered with a blackish patina, as if they had been exhibited for a long time outdoors. I did not understand whether it is an aging of marble or dirt. Thorvaldsen was very prolific and his works are found everywhere in Copenhagen. A small section of the upper floor is dedicated to painting, with paintings by minor authors.

  • A good place for art and sculpture buffs. The museum was quite and serene. There was no entry ticket on that day and the place looked majestic. As I don't have any background related to art and it's history, the rating is based solely on the ambiance and the attitude of present staff.
  • Take your time, wander slow, grab the audio tour if you can. They're just iPods you walk through with but they are very informative. The work is absolutely stunning and you will want to give yourself an hour or two. The tickets also work for the more modern museum housed in St. Nicholas Church as well.
