Specialty Museum · Hidden Gem · Museum
Packed with pre-Columbian artifacts, Museo Casa del Alabado preserves and displays the cultural and artistic heritage of Ecuador's indigenous peoples. Occupying a colonial-era house erected during the 17th century, the museum allows visitors to learn about indigenous beliefs through thematic exhibits, which cover subjects like the afterlife and the role of shamans. Displays contain exquisitely crafted ceramic items, jewelry, carved figurines, ceremonial vessels, masks, musical instruments, and tools. Explanations in both English and Spanish provide insight into the meaning of each item. For a deeper understanding of the museum's highlights, pick up an audio guide at the entrance.
