Poitevin Marshes, Nouvelle-Aquitaine

A remnant of the former Gulf of Poitou, Poitevin Marshes has become famous as the second largest marshland in the country. It comprises dry marsh areas as well as a wet marsh area, which is made up of a maze of islets and canals. The wet marsh is used by tourists for boat rides and has been given the nickname la Venise Verte or The Green Venice. The Poitevin Marshes was declared an interregional park in 1996 and is now a preserved site.   • Very nice afternoon, took a boat ( with guide) for 90 minutes, very good. Lovely place, well worth a visit, didn't see much else, so if you don't take a boat ride ??  more »
