The Royal Chapel contains a royal gallery dedicated to St. Louis. It was finished in 1707 by Robert de Cotte. The intricate detailing of the chapel's ceiling contains paintings by the artists Jouvet, Coypel, and La Fosse. Van Cleve sculpted the front altar out of marble, decorated in front with gilded bronze. It's made in a Gothic-style on two floors and has big glass windows. The chapel was dedicated to St. Louis, the protector of the King and the ancestor of the royal house. Every day the king from his chambers through the Mirror Gallery reached out to her. He never went down to her floor, except during the religious festivities when he received communion or for baptises and wedding princes and princesses, which were kept from 1710. Until 1789. Year.
Royal chapel with magnificent vaulted ceilings. Evolved with the palace. Fifth chapel of the palace, important for royal events like marriages etc. Integral part if the Royal life.
It is off limits to normal visitors and can only be visited as part of a guided tour. Normal visitors can only view it through a small door in one of the rooms on the upper floor. As expected, the entrance gets pretty crowded but it is worthwhile to wait for your turn and take a few photos. Unfortunately only the upper floor and the ceiling of the chapel can be viewed from here.
