Brandenburg Gate, Berlin

Brandenburg Gate was built in the 18th century as a defining symbol of the city, but it ended up in the middle of the no-man’s land separating East and West Germany for the better part of the 20th century. Today, this impressive monument epitomizes European unification and continued peace. It often serves as an attractive backdrop for special events, such as concerts. Architect Carl Gotthard Langhans designed the triumphal arch, finding inspiration in classical Greek architecture. He chose this spot to serve as the entry into the city’s renowned boulevard of linden trees. Artist Johan Gottfried Schadow’s sculpture of a winged goddess commanding a chariot crowns the gate. • Nice walk along Unter den linden before arriving at the Pirta in Brandenburg! Recommended a visit to the Madame Tussauds museum before arriving at the Gate and walking into the big park immediately after the Gate!

  • This is a nice piece of architecture. I would recommend visiting late afternoon/evening according for cool picture opportunities. A visit in a really hot summers day is less comfortable. The plaza is large, without benches to sit. It's also within walking distance to museums, the mall, memorials etc.
  • Very beautiful gate to Berlin. Saw this for the first time and was in awe. A definitely must visit location in Berlin. Easy access to public transport. Walk around the area and enjoy the dancing and music by the performers and have a meal at one of the restaurants there. This area is very busy during daytime.
