A 19th-century palace, Schloss Hohenschwangau served as the childhood home of King Ludwig II. The castle was built on the site of a ruined fortress and quickly became a favorite hunting residence for the royal family. The interior of the palace contains numerous grand halls. They've largely been left in the state the royals would have enjoyed, with ornate period furniture and lavish wall murals. Many sections of the castle are open to visitors, but you need to make prior arrangements for a guided tour. You can arrive for your tour in royal style: A horse carriage starts at the ticket office in the village below the palace. Check online for tour options. Worth visiting, a short hike up the hill. It's a much smaller castle compared to neuschweinstein castle. Weather in September is amazing to visit. The view around is breathtaking.
Great castle of Bavarian kings. Much more interesting and impressive on the inside so definitely get a guided tour. Furthermore the views from it are simply breathtaking.
