Burgtor und Burg
Built in 1356 after the castle of Rothenburg was destroyed, Burgtor und Burg served as the city's main gate and fortification. Notice the smaller door hidden within the larger gate: this allowed a single person to pass through without opening the entire gate, thus protecting the city from possible attack. Also look for the mask face near the top of the gate, a spot into which hot tar was poured through and onto enemies. The coat of arms of both the city and the empire adorn the wood. This gate is located in Burg Park on the west side of the Old Town. Through this gate, the romantic old town's fairy tale world unfolded.View original -
Am schönsten ist Burgtor und Burg am Abend anzuschauen wenn alles beleuchtet ist. Das alte Stadttor mit dem kleinen Mann's Tor lässt einem erahnen wie es hier früher zuging. more »
The most beautiful way to see the castle and castle in the evening is when everything is illuminated. The old city gate with the little man's gate gives you a glimpse of how it used to be here.View original

Excellent views of the city, deeply historic, the top of the tower has a lot of facts of history behind how the town was affected by WWII. Steep steps to the top with handrails. Think it was 2 Euro contribution to get in. It's a great start to your visit!

Rothenburg is a really cool town. The wall is fun to walk and the Nightwatchman tour in the evening is not to be missed! Schneballen are also great and a must try when visiting. They are kind of like a cookie ball with various flavorings or icings on and in them.
