What remains standing today of Temple of Olympian Zeus serves as a testament to the grandeur of ancient Greek architecture. Built over several years and completed in 456 BCE, the temple was dedicated to Zeus, the king of the Olympian gods. Badly damaged by both fire and earthquakes, much of the temple is in ruins, but some columns still stand. At 10.5 m tall (34.4 ft) and 2.25 m (7.4 ft) in diameter, the columns were built of local limestone and covered in white stucco. Admission is included in the ticket to the nearby Acropolis. Temple of Olympian Zeus Reviews
We visited in the off season and paid 4 euros each and this was still too expensive. You can’t get close and the view you get is basically the same from the road. No information plaques, no seating... more »
The Temple is only a few column it not much to see as there you are restricted to get closer to the columns as thay doing work. Quite a bit off the site is over grown.the gate fee is only 4 euros... more »
This is a pretty simple site, with just a few massive monumental columns of the old temple left standing and one fallen. You can see most of it from outside, but to really get a sense of its scale you need to get up close. It's a great place to get a combination ticket for the Acropolis and other sites as there's hardly ever a queue here.
The temple of Zeus is a magnificent ruin of an ancient temple. The details on the pillars and just their sheer size is astonishing. If you like ancient temples, this is a sure visit. The admission fee isnt too high, but its something to keep in mind.
