What remains standing today of Temple of Olympian Zeus serves as a testament to the grandeur of ancient Greek architecture. Built over several years and completed in 456 BCE, the temple was dedicated to Zeus, the king of the Olympian gods. Badly damaged by both fire and earthquakes, much of the temple is in ruins, but some columns still stand. At 10.5 m tall (34.4 ft) and 2.25 m (7.4 ft) in diameter, the columns were built of local limestone and covered in white stucco. Admission is included in the ticket to the nearby Acropolis. Temple of Olympian Zeus Reviews
Only worth going in if you get the 30 euro combo ticket with the Acropolis as there is nothing to see inside that you can’t see through the fence more »
It's worth strolling through the National Garden and arriving at this site. Although little remains of the temple, the scale of what is there is amazing. A visit is included with the Acropolis tickets... more »
Great place to start your tour of Athenian ruins. Build up to acropolis later in the day. Good ideas to buy your tickets here, or anywhere other than the acropolis ticket office. It was quiet when we arrived here about 10:30am. The columns are imposing and you get some nice pics and feel the enormity of the ancient structure
This is worth visiting if you have the multi site ticket (30 euros) as the columns are gigantic. That's pretty much it. If you do not have that ticket, I suggest you just appreciate them from outside the fence since, considering their sizes, you will still have a good impression.
