Airborne Cemetery, Oosterbeek

Remember the fallen at Airborne Cemetery, a Commonwealth War Graves Commission cemetery and the final resting place of 1,759 men who died in World War II. This site, established in 1945, mostly holds the graves of Allied servicemen killed during the Battle of Arnhem, in which Allied troops attempted to cross the Rhine in 1944, or during the liberation of the city. Do not be surprised to see new grave markers; bodies are still being discovered in the surrounding area and are laid to rest among their comrades. • Very nicely located and well maintained British military cemetery. Numerous deaths with an interesting military history include victoria cross holders. When you visit the Hartenstein museum, you should definitely visit this cemetery. Don't forget the small memorial that on the access road, only 200m further is to commemorate the air despatch, the fallen of the logistical air support that fell in the supply of the British troops near Oosterbeek.

  • Beautiful place and a very moving place to visit. Whenever we visit Friends in Germany we visit and place a poppy on family grave.
  • If you're looking at the history of operation Market Garden then you need to visit this war cemetery. This brings all the information in the museums together. At the end of it all it's about the young lives from around the globe and from different beliefs that were lost. I war there are no winners, just losers.
