Szechenyi Chain Bridge, Budapest

While it offers excellent views of the city, Szechenyi Chain Bridge serves as a historic landmark itself: It's the first bridge to span the Danube River in Hungary. Built by English engineer William Tierney in 1849, this structure connects the east and west side of Hungary's capital city. The bridge features two road lanes, plus a pedestrian zone for those traveling on foot. Cross this well-known symbol of Budapest, marvel at its stone structure, and compare both sides of the city. Visit Széchenyi Square on the Pest side of the bridge, or head up to the Castle Hill on the Buda side. • The Chain Bridge is one of Budapest's iconic landmarks - you'll find it - you can't miss it. The key and central link between Pecs and Buda, it was the first permanent bridge across the Danube in Buda...  more »
  • Very beautiful and suggestive, you cross it often (especially with public transport) if you go on holiday in Budapest because it is one of the bridges linking between Buda and Pest, and it is also the most famous. It is very big and imposing but it is beautiful especially at night when you light up the yellow lights and brighten it up to make it magical.

  • It is iconic brigade in Budapest. It has been witness to many things in Hungarian history. It was destroyed in world war II but later restored.I had seen it in Hindi movie while growing up. It was dream come to visit it.It looks mesmerizing during night when it is illuminated. If you see this bridge from white bridge during night, what you will see will be engraved in your memory forever!
  • Beautiful landmark. It would be worth your time to have a look at it after dark when it is illuminated. Seeing it's construction of literal chain links is fascinating. The whole thing uses spring leaf like steel planks layered and bolted down together.
