Must see · Mountain · Hidden Gem · Nature / Park
Climb up Carrantoohil for breathtaking views atop Ireland's highest peak. There are several paths to the top, but most people take the northeast route. Alternatively, you can take the "horseshoe" trip and climb from the west. While you don't need special equipment, be careful of loose rocks and wear dependable hiking shoes. Once you've ascended, you'll be rewarded with the awe-inspiring sight of three bowl-shaped valleys and their lakes surrounded by mountains. A steel cross was erected here in 1976. Consider hiring a guide if you are an inexperienced hiker. For travelers who use our custom trip planner, Killarney holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Carrantoohil and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • Once at the top you will say it was worth the climb. Coming down is fun.
  • I was blessed with wonderful weather. Few trails leading to the summit for more or less advanced, so everybody will find good way for himself.
