Walk across one of Florence's oldest and most iconic landmarks, Ponte Vecchio. Spanning the Arno river in the heart of the city, the 14th-century bridge features a wide, three-arch design supporting a series of historic shop fronts. Stroll the bridge's thoroughfare to peruse shops or see street performances. Visit the secret Vasari Corridor that stretches across the bridge to connect two Renaissance palaces. Antique jewelry enthusiasts may want to keep an eye out for the area's gold and silversmith shops. • This is an extremely old bridge and was first built in 966. There have been a number of rebuilds over the years. In 1693 a decree was issued that only only goldsmiths and jewellers could have shops on...  more »
  • It is obviously an emblematic place of Florence and you can not miss visiting it. Personally, I wasn't too moved. When you arrive walking down the street and enter the bridge you don't realize it's a bridge until you get to half which is the only place you can see the Arno River, the rest of the bridge is surrounded by jewelry and silverware outlets , so you don't realize if you're on a bridge or on the street.

  • Ponte Vecchio bridge is a pedestrian walkway with jewelry shops on both sides. The bridge itself is not long with gaps between some stores to allow for a breathtaking view of the river below and the roads running along both sides. Overall a great experience especially since you don't have to plan to visit this location - you'd just path through it when you're out for a walk and then realize its purpose.
  • Interesting bridge with a surreal number of tourists! I personally prefer the other ones (less crowded and easier access), but this one is really interesting. Have never seen building on top of bridges before.
