Remarkable for its straightness among so many meandering side streets, Via del Corso runs north and south through the historic center of Rome. In the 15th century, the road was a racetrack for riderless horses in the Roman Carnival. Today, tourists and locals frequent the ground-floor shops and cafes. The cafes spill out into the many piazzas that open up off the street, such as Piazza Venezia and Piazza Colonna. The northern part of the street is the more spacious and comfortable for walking. Further south, the sidewalks become narrower. Use our Rome trip builder app to visit Via del Corso on your trip to Rome, and learn what else travelers and our writers recommend seeing nearby.
