Cupola di San Pietro, Vatican City

#4 of 15 in Historic Sites in Vatican City
Cupola di San Pietro is the dome atop St. Peter’s Basilica, one of the most famous attractions in the area. You can climb to the top of the dome for breathtaking views of the city, but be warned that it is a challenging ascent. An elevator will take you up the first section. To reach the very top, you climb a spiral staircase without a handrail. Visitors early in the day will find the shortest lines. • An adventure, an experience that requires a lot of physical effort, especially if you choose to make the whole route of stairs. The same dome, it's just a ladder. The slope will frighten, giving the impression that you are falling. The steps are also very narrow, coming to give a little fear. But the view at the top rewards any effort! When you get to the top, rest, make amazing pictures, and get ready for the descent, which is as difficult as the climb. It's worth the experience.

  • Spectacular view at the entrance. Although not fond of sacred art, it is absolutely to be seen at least once in a lifetime. Visit the Vatican caves (with the tombs of the Popes), but even more so the visit by reservation to the Uff. excavations of the underground area under the caves (Roman times). Also to make the climb (we chose with the elevator of the Dome itself). Cost 10 euros per person regardless of age, payable only on site and only for cash.

  • Beautiful place, amazing architecture. worth visiting the place. There is no entry fees for the church and square, but to avoid long queues you can buy fast entry pass. Make sure sleeveless and clothes below knees are not allowed inside the church. Tour guides and also audio tours are available before entering the church. Place is worth exploring.
  • I really enjoyed been there, the feelings that you got been in this place are amazing, the greatness of the monuments around and inside the Basilica make you feel like if you used a time machine! It take you away from where you really are, could make you feel tiny too, but I a good way, enjoying the work of thousands of people through hundreds of years.. I am not a religious person (even knowing that I had been in contact with different branches of Christianity and others religions thought) I recommend to anyone that appreciate art and history, even if don't, you should go there, it may awake something inside of you that may change your perspective about all that.
