Basilica dei Santi Giovanni e Paolo (San Zanipolo), Venice

4.6
The main church of the Dominican order in Venice, Basilica dei Santi Giovanni e Paolo (San Zanipolo) boasts an expansive brick façade and a spacious interior. Among the church's many funerary monuments and paintings rest the remains of 25 of Venice’s doges. Gaze at the ornately decorated and painted ceiling of the Chapel of the Rosary, and seek out the Byzantine statue of Madonna della Pace. Don’t miss the main relic of the church, the foot of St. Catherine of Siena. • The dogue Palce and BAsilica San Marco are both a must see in Venice, but the Basilica dei Santa Giovanni E Paolo contain the burial crypts of most of the ruling Dogues from history. A spectacular mus...  more »
  • It is one of the most imposing religious buildings of veneziaed and is considered the Pantheon for the great number and Sepulchal monuments of Doges and famous people of Venice. It has a very high façade with a large rosonand a portal with white columns. Spectacular, outside, the apse with the slender and large Gothic windows. The interior with a Latin cross and three aisles with high Gothic vaults is large, but what impresses the most is the large number of monuments leaning against the walls and chapels with frescoed vaults and splendid altars. Spectacular and monumental, on the left, the sepulchres of the doges of the Mogenic family, and, on the right, the Valier mausoleum. Outside the tourist tours, although not far from Rialto; You pay a Modic admission ticket of €3.50 for the preservation of the works of art.

  • very, very, very nice place to be next to. There are two churches next each to other and it makes this place so special. You can sit next to them in local cafe and have some good time. Nice colors as all over Venice and beautiful architecture. I love Venice for all those churches you will see.
  • Awesome and mesmerizing. Venice is one of the most beautiful cities in this world and it was a great pleasure going around and having some beautiful time spent there. The entire city is base on water streams and you get many boats and gondola to go around and explore this City. It is cleaned and beautiful and very well organised. You can get boats for internal rides as well as rides to the nearby islands too..!! Overall a must visit in Italy..!!
