Ponte dell'Accademia, Venice

#27 of 841 in Things to do in Venice
Cross the Grand Canal on Ponte dell'Accademia, one of four bridges to cross the span of water on the southern end. The crossing connects the sestieres, or city subdivisions, of Dorsoduro and San Marco. When you go, look for the “lovers’ locks,” or the padlocks engraved with couples’ names and locked onto the railings. • Ponte dell'Accademia is one of four bridges across the Grand Canal, connecting the dorsoduro and San Marco districts. There are many interesting sights on both sides of the bridge. The bridge overlooks the canal. In my opinion the views from the Academy Bridge are even better than from the Rialto Bridge. But the most amazing thing is to meet the dawn at Ponte dell'Accademia. In anticipation of dawn on the bridge gather photographers with tripods and a very small number of tourists. The spectacle is amazing! And after the meeting of dawn quickly to the square of San Marco and you will get another pleasure - you will see San Marco without crowds of tourists, will be able to feed pigeons and make great photos. So the acquaintance with Ponte dell'Accademia should start early in the morning.

  • This was for me the best view in all of Venice and I literally could have spent hours just sitting here and watching the city go by around me. When we went there were not many tourists and we had a chunk of the bridge to ourselves. It was absolutely stunning and will be for me the picture in my head in when I think back to what Venice looks like.
  • Beautiful city! Get your glad rags on and snap snap snap. You'd be silly not to get tons of photos. And If you're me and have a brilliant mister to take photos of you then lucky You! ;). Beautiful in the summer( be ready to walk lots FYI)
