Ponte Scaligero (Ponte di Castelvecchio)
Legend has it that the designer of Ponte Scaligero (Ponte di Castelvecchio) arrived at the bridge on horseback so he would be ready to ride away should the structure collapse. The bridge was built at the command of Cangrande II della Scala, a tyrannical ruler who wanted to be able to escape his castle should the people rebel against him. The bridge remained unharmed through many violent struggles until 1945, when retreating German troops destroyed it. It was reconstructed faithfully in 1949 and opened again in 1951. The fortified walkway, now a pedestrian- and bicycle-only bridge, connects two sections of Verona over the Adige River. What a pretty bridge, leads to a nice relaxing park. Plenty of good "selfie" places for the "gram". Musicians play along here and so far we haven't seen any beggars or lucky lucky men trying to sell.... more »

Very nice old bridge with an amazing views of the city. The scenes are really incredible and easily can spend an hour relishing the magnificent panoramic views. It is also possible to go to an upper level by a tiny stairs and better appreciate the place. It is considered as the most audacious works in the middle age of Verona. It was constructed between 1354 and 1356.
