Hosho-in (Osu Kannon), Osu

3.7
Religious Site · Tourist Spot
A modest, red-lacquered Buddhist temple, Hosho-in (Osu Kannon) remains known for its monthly flea market and profusion of pigeons. Originally built in the 17th century, the temple was unfortunately destroyed and had to be rebuilt in 1970s. Interestingly, it holds the only copy of the Kojiki--ancient chronicles of Japanese history and mythology--though the document remains out of public view. Take advantage of the photo opportunities among the pigeons and picturesque architecture. On the 18th of every month you can hunt for souvenirs at the flea market. • A huge temple at the end of the shopping arcade. There is a Pidgeon feeding area by the front where you can purchase a platter of feed. Be careful as the Pidgeons are very friendly. The temple itself is beautiful and worth a visit for some great photos.
  • My favourite place in Nagoya. A lot of festivals take place there. There are many shops to buy from. I just live everything about Osu district.
