Established at the site of a Viking village excavated during the 1980s, the museum features a chieftain's house, a blacksmith's forge, and a wide outdoor area crossed by gravel walking paths. Two full-scale replicas of the Gokstad ship are anchored on the lake. See original handicrafts as well as historical reenactments of Viking life. • I would recommend. In my opinion, being in Lofotach you have to see what the life of the Vikings looked like. About 1 km from the hut is the pier where you can go on a drakkarem cruise. On the way to the marina you can see the work of the blacksmith, abandon the axe and play with games from the Viking era.

  • This museum, opened in 1995, is located at the excavation site of a Viking chieftain's village. Notable findings include the 270-ft chieftain's house, two Viking ships, a blacksmith's forge and severa...  more »
  • Museum itself was quite interesting. Easy to use audio tour that you can access on your own phone. With this you get a lot of background information about the place and all the objects on display. What was most fun for us though was the viking feast in the Chieftain's hall! Absolutely recommended. Don't forget to reserve it in time (see the website). Delicious food and mead. All while enjoying a fun play happening around you. The Chieftain's hall itself is also interesting to look around in.
  • A very cool place, especially the longhouse exhibit, where you can talk to "Vikings" and learn about their life and culture, and the harbor area, where you can take a trip on the Viking ship - you can row or sail, depending on the wind, it's included in the ticket price - just be sure to get a safety jacket from the boathouse and get in line as soon as you get to the harbor, only 12 people fit on the boat and it leaves every half hour. There is also axe throwing, archery and a blacksmith! Come sooner in the day, as you can easily spend your whole day here, there is a lot to see. Only four stars because the gift shop was incredibly disappointing for such a cool place.
