Geiranger Fjord, Geiranger

Part of Norway's network of glacial inlets and mountainous crevasses, Geiranger Fjord represents one of the country's most popular sights on the World Heritage List. Visit the fjord, stretching 15 km (9.3 mi), and explore the rugged landscape that characterizes the area. While several small villages dot the region, here the surrounding mountains plunge almost directly into the sea, making most habitation impossible. Join a sightseeing boat tour to get a view of the mountains as well as an up-close look at the fjord's system of waterfalls. You can also climb your way up to one of the fjord's viewpoints for sweeping panoramas of jagged peaks, forested slopes, and the twisting waterway itself. Inspirock's itinerary builder makes planning a Geiranger trip simple and quick.

  • We arrived by cruise ship and it was delightful to sit on our balcony as we slowly made our way up the Fjord to Geiranger. Stunning Scenery, tall mountains and amazing waterfalls. Once we disembarked ...  more »
  • The very first fjord towards our journey along the fjords of Western Norway, the splendor of which we could see, turned out to be a magnificent Geirangerfjord (Geirangerfjorden) is a southern, 15-minute long, an offshoot of Stord. Geirangerfjorden is gorgeous and even without taking into account the fact that this fjord is inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage list.

  • Stunningly beautiful fjord, tons of waterfalls, and the most dangerous mountain in the world: it is clinging to one side, the crack is very visible, some 3 meters wide, and it will presumably fall into the water of the fjord, causing a huge tsunami wave. The locals are listening to it with scientific instruments and claim they will know that 72 hours in advance, which should give the villagers and tourists enough time to evacuate the area. So hurry up to see the jewel amongst fjords!
  • I would give 5 stars, but it is critical to note it is 5 stars in non peak tourist season. When there are loads of tourists, I must advise the area gets overcrowded with lines and rubbish.
