#3 of 697 in Museums in Norway
Learn more about the polar explorations undertaken by the Norwegian explorers Fridtjof Nansen, Otto Sverdrup, and Roald Amundsen at Fram Museum. Climb aboard the Fram, the original ship used by Nansen on his voyage, and walk in the cabins of the crew members and the main deck to get a feel for what life as an explorer was like during this period. Also, view the ship used in Amundsen's journey through the Northwest Passage, the Gjoa. You'll have the chance to see the scientific equipment and actual artifacts that were used for the explorers' research. Look up at the museum's ceiling during one of their light shows for projections of the ethereal Northern Lights. • So very interesting and informative. You do need a few hours to get through it all. When you get on the ferry, make sure you get off at the second stop and a long walk from the first one.  more »

  • Interesting and informative museum with loads of information in English. The opportunity to walk around the Fram is very memorable and alongside the exhibits gives a real feel for what life would have been like for the explorers. It gets pretty busy with coach tours, but if you're willing to take it at your own pace (we took just under 3 hours with our two 10 year old kids) this isn't a problem.
  • A must to go museum in Norway. Fram is a symbol of Norway's significant participation in the heroic age of exploration. When you go to the museum you can on board and take a look around in her cabins, lounges, cargo hold and engine room. So you feel how it is like to be on board and how it feels like to sail in! Very different museum of its kind which you can experience it by being on board. You can enjoy a northern lights show every 20 minutes from the main deck of the Fram. In the activity centre behind the ship you can test your strength and accuracy. There is a cafe inside and books and gifts shop where you can find interesting things to buy.
