Trip Planner:   Europe  /  Norway  /  Eastern Norway  /  Oslo  /  Rådhuset
The site of the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony each year, Rådhuset also serves as the nexus for the municipal government and one of the city's most recognizable buildings. Built over a period of nearly 20 years beginning in 1931, the building survived German occupation during World War II. The central facility features modern brick architecture, including two towers rising to a height of 66 m (217 ft). Be sure to listen for the carillon that rings out from one tower on the hour. Explore the interior to see the extensive frescoes and oil paintings that cover the walls, depicting famous events, legends, and themes from Norwegian history. The banquet hall also features paintings of royalty and more oil frescoes. • It was Saturday, but there were a lot of people who wore ethnic costumes in the square, so I thought it would be a local event. The timing was bad. I'm sorry.

  • From the outside it looks like a brick block, but the interior is artistically very appealing and varied. Definitely worth a visit!

  • Did not yet go in. But am amazed at the architecture and the monuments... The stone have a distinct sea salt effect making the look greenish.... And it symbolises the feminine nature and womanhood in a very beautiful way.... Love being here
  • Oslo City Hall is not simply an administrative and municipality center. Visitors can enjoy art including precious pieces from munch and tour through architectural development of the city. The city Hall also hosts various events throughout the year.
