Glimpse into the life of the founder of modern drama at The Ibsen Museum. Henrik Ibsen, one of the most performed playwrights in the world, lived here in the last 11 years of his life. Opened in 2006 on the 100th year anniversary of his death, the museum recreates the interior of the writer's final home with a mix of original furniture and replicas. Gain further insight through educational films. The museum on the ground floor contains artifacts and personal items, including Ibsen's hat collection. Upstairs, guided 30-minute tours of the apartment are offered in groups of 15. Lockers are available, and a small gift shop offers books for purchase. The Ibsen Museum Reviews
Being a big theatre buff, I was looking forward to visiting the Ibsen Museum on my trip to Oslo. We took a taxi and pulled up to find a "Closed" sign. They are renovating it and it is not scheduled..... more »
I didn't know too lot about Ibsen, but this museum makes every effort to change this! Worth every second. more »
This is a quirky little museum perhaps just for aficionados. But you also get a guided tour of his last apartment which is excellent. Our guide was superb. Nice little shop. Couldn't resist a t shirt which says "HI" which are obviously his initials. There are also fabulous babygros. Don't miss it.
A tiny museum with a big soul. You can read quotes from Ibsen's plays and learn lots about his life and career. He was a deep thinker and this museum does a lot to showcase his troubles, concerns and motivations. You also learn about his time overseas, his family and his lovers. Really enjoyed it! Five stars!
