For a taste of modern northern architecture, visit The Arctic Cathedral, one of Tromso's important churches. Built in 1965 and partially inspired by Sydney, Australia's famous opera house, the church showcases a triangular construction and a glass frontal facade. Though the main structure is concrete, it's covered by aluminum sheets. Explore the interior of the church, which, though mostly minimalist, boasts an intricate stained-glass window on one end (as well as an organ with nearly 3,000 pipes). Be sure to bring your camera and get a shot of the cathedral from a distance or across the water, as the peaked structure stands out starkly against the mountainous backdrop. The Arctic Cathedral Reviews
Innen aber leider sehr einfach und eben nicht die typische Kirche, die man sich halt vorstellt. Beeindruckend ist aber das bunt gestaltete Glasfenster. more »Inside, however, unfortunately very simple and just not the typical church that one imagines. The brightly designed stained glass window is impressive.
La chiesa è molto carina e particolare esternamente. Zona comoda per fare una foto un po' panoramica, comoda da raggiungere in macchina. Convenient area to take a picture a little ' panoramic, convenient to reach by car. Unfortunately when we went at Easter it was closed and we could not get in.
Best to go here on the way to Fjellheisen as it is on the same bus route. It is also possible to walk from the city centre, but it will take around 20+ minutes and the wind can be quite strong while crossing the bridge. Need to pay if you want to go inside the cathedral itself.
Unique design. Brings a lot of sunshine inside the cathedral. You need to pay entrance fees which is not very expensive. All in all 30 mins peaceful time with god.
