Nidaros Cathedral, Trondheim

4.5
Home of the grave of Norway's patron saint, Nidaros Cathedral stands as one of the country's most important religious sites and one of the largest medieval buildings in Scandinavia. Original construction started in 1070 over the resting place of Saint Olaf, and the church took on elements of both Gothic and Romanesque architecture over the centuries. Stop by the sizable cathedral to admire its dual bell towers and intricate facade, replete with arches, windows, and pillars. Explore the vaulted interior and its large stained-glass window section. Don't miss the crypt, which contains a multitude of medieval-era headstones found within the church. • The cathedral is beautiful, and now they are also putting up some modern lights inside that show the high level of craftsmanship in what were previously dark corners. Worth a visit!
  • Nice cathedral but nothing I haven't seen before. It's actually the only cathedral where I have to pay the entrance fee which was an absolute rip off for what it has to offer. Tourist trap.
