Nidaros Cathedral, Trondheim

4.6
Home of the grave of Norway's patron saint, Nidaros Cathedral stands as one of the country's most important religious sites and one of the largest medieval buildings in Scandinavia. Original construction started in 1070 over the resting place of Saint Olaf, and the church took on elements of both Gothic and Romanesque architecture over the centuries. Stop by the sizable cathedral to admire its dual bell towers and intricate facade, replete with arches, windows, and pillars. Explore the vaulted interior and its large stained-glass window section. Don't miss the crypt, which contains a multitude of medieval-era headstones found within the church. • Magnificent cathedral with wonderful figures on the façade. The visit inside is not really worth it, and you don't have to spend around 12 euros admission.

  • I walked here from the cruise ship port. I'm not religious so had no interest in going into the Cathedral but took a photo and checked out the gift shop. Everyone said that it was lovely inside.  more »

  • If you ever visit to the Trondheim, this place is a must visit. Simply Beautiful !!! Amazing art work, historical and of course magical. I booked a ticket to visit the museum and the tower. Tower was the most amazing part and you will get the breathtaking view of Trondheim from the top. I really would have regretted not visiting this place. Of course once you are inside the Church, you will get a magical feeling. Loved the place. Nice gift shops if you wanna get some souvenirs from Trondheim.
  • It is just amazing! Worth to seeing! Huge, magnificent, absolutely unreal peace of architecture that makes you feel very small and helplessly in love with it. Reminds me about Prague and its churches. But the best thing is that there are not so many tourist here and you can enjoy this wonderful church in peace (unlike St. Vitus in Prague). It is not enough to visit it only once, because there are so many small things in the body of the church! Just watch the pictures and you'll understand what I mean!
